I appreciated that he didn't spend his time simply pining for Japan but actually took concrete actions to try to get himself there.
Of course, with this kind of book there is always the problem of explaining how a person who kidnaps his lover is anything but an abusive tyrant but even this I thought was handled quite well. I quote the following review from the editor of the Anderson Valley Advertiser:
