ELINE SNEL is a therapist and certified MBSR trainer and runs the Academy for Mindful Teaching in the Netherlands. She has been developing and teaching mindfulness-based courses for over twenty years and trains teachers to teach MBSR techniques to students. Her program has been used in numerous primary schools in the Netherlands. She has recently started a pilot project in various secondary schools to teach mindfulness practices to teenagers. This is a very fine biography of Ernest Haeckel (1834-1919), the primary interpreter and defender of Darwinian theory in 19th and early 20th century Germany and, perhaps, the world. However, Haeckel is more than just an empirical, data-driven scientist. Wolcott is a talented writer who knew Mailer and Kael and was in the middle of the mid-'70s CBGBs scene, yet his book is a snooze. All and all, Haeckel was no shrinking violet and relished the opportunity to "mix it up" with opponents.
I have been able to touch upon only some of the highlights covered in this fine book. Price's twist on the vampire is fascinating and fresh. And bless the gods, there are footnotes at the base of the page.
